Winter brings several issues for your horse, particularly in the coldest parts of Australia. From stabling to feeding, your horse's requirements will change. In cold weather, horses require additional energy to maintain body temperatures, additional water to compensate for dry feedstuffs and extra nutrients to offset depleted pasture.
For every 1°C drop in temperature a horse needs an extra 2 MJ of energy to generate additional heat and, even if stabled or rugged can add up. For example, a 5°C drop in temperature means an extra kilogram of feed needs to be eaten, which in winter can be challenging as horses tend to eat less.
Feeding your horses an energy efficient feed like Speedi-Beet and Fibre-Beet ensures they are getting the fibre and nutrients they need as well as encouraging water intake.
