What do you love most about your horse? I love our partnership the most and his willing attitude to do anything. We have total faith in each other. I love riding him in all disciplines.
Funny habits, how does your horse make you smile? When Sam wants more food he picks up his feed bin, gives it a shake and drops it at my feet. Sometimes when he gets excited before a show jumping round he does little excited hops and I know that it is going to be a good round. When I went into the warm up ring at Lakes and Craters the marshell commentated on how quiet he was and then he got so excited in the warm up ring I had to change the ring on his bit. However he never scares me even when he is excited and he did one of only 10 clear rounds in the class.
Horse’s Name: Cheeketa
Height: 16.1hh
Colour: Bay
Breed: Thoroughbred
Discipline: Showjumping
What do you love most about your horse? Chee is so kind and obliging. She will jump anything without argument and her turns are so tight that even though we have only been a combination for a few months I can't wait for the jumping season to start up again as she is going to be very competative.
Funny habits, how does your horse make you smile? Mum calls untacking her an extreme sport because she likes to rub so much after she has been ridden.
What do you love most about horses? I love how big and powerful they are though still so complient and gentle with us.
Do you have an idol in the Equine World? Easy. Mark Todd is my hero. I grew up watching him and have every Badmington and rolex since 2011. I watched his Badmington win in 2011, which was 31 years after his win. He is incredible
Who is your biggest supporter? My mum
Describe your favourite horse memory? It is so hard to pick a favourite as I have so many memories. I have made so many wonderful friends at Pony Club. Horses have been part of every aspect of my life and so much fun and so many friends. As far as a favourite goes? That is so hard. It would be either a day that my brother and I missed school to go to the beach (We said we had a dentist appointment) or it was my first 1* on my very special horse Sam.
What are your ambitions or dreams with your current horses? I feel like I have always loved horses. I loved my rocking horse and used to play horse races around the house with my hobby horse. I always won. I don't remember not loving horses. My pony Lollypop was my best friend.
Where do you see yourself riding in 5 years? I am in the process of applying to ride 2* (as I am only 14). Once that gets approved I plan on qualifying for Melbourne Junior 2* in 2022 and then ride at Adelaide 3* in 2023 on Sam. Chee and I plan on competing Juniors in 2021.
Why do you want to be part of the Barastoc Junior Squad? I would like to be recognised finally after all the years of work and dedication. I would like to help out my Mum and Dad who struggle to fund my riding and all the lessons and horse feed etc. My horse Sam is a complete legend and would love to show him off for the amazing animal he is. We call him Mr Perfect. I love my horses and the partnership we form would really represent what Barastoc is all about.
How do you think being a member of the Barastoc Junior Squad will help your riding? My horses would feel fanastic on top quaility feed that really suits their needs. I would have more recognition, respect and oppurtunites in my horse community being a representative of such an amazing professional brand that is Barastoc.
Which Barastoc Ambassador would you most like to meet? Megan Jones
Have you fed Barastoc to your horses in the past? If so, what products did you use? Yes. I feed calm performer to all my horses and ponies. I find that it keeps the perfect amount of weight on them all. Sam tends to be fat and Chee is a thoroughbred and tends to be skinny though I feed it to them both and they both perform so well and are always manageable even though we were told Chee was too hot to be ridden.
