What do you love most about your horse? I love how much Alex has taught me about higher level dressage - he knows much more about dressage than I do, having competed to Medium level at the Nationals. He's been a patient teacher and has played an extremely important role in my development as a dressage rider. But most of all, I really love riding him. He's got such a great movement and it feels awesome riding him as he powers around the arena.
Funny habits, how does your horse make you smile? Alex can be very cheeky and it makes me laugh when he takes sneaky nibbles of people's clothes. I also love how excited he gets when I bring him his feed. He has this high pitched whinny and the look on his face is hilarious.
What do you love most about horses? I really love the feeling of freedom while riding horses. I also love how smart they are and how they can pick up on how you're feeling.
Do you have an idol in the Equine World? Rachael Downs
Who is your biggest supporter? My biggest supporter, aside from my parents, is my coach, Danielle Ffrench.
Describe your favourite horse memory? My favourite horse memory is winning the ACT Dressage Association Official Competitive PrelimInary 1C in September 2020. It was our first competition following the COVID lockdown, and our first official competition together, our previous event being an unofficial test in January, not long after I got Alex. We'd worked so hard together all through the year, and I finally felt like we were working as a team. When we entered the arena Alex powered down the centre line into our first halt and from then on we just owned that arena. It felt brilliant. And we scored 74%! I couldn't stop smiling for the rest of the day.
What are your ambitions or dreams with your current horses? This year I'm aiming to qualify for the Nationals, be competitive in the NSW Youth Dressage Championships and NSW Interschools, do well in the Dressage NSW Young Rider standings, and qualify for FEI Pony. Over the next two years I want to move up to riding Advanced, with the aim to achieve Prix St George on Alex. I'd also like to compete in the NSW Young Rider Squad, and of course I would love to be in the Barastoc Young Rider squad.
Where do you see yourself riding in 5 years? In five years time I'd like to be riding a school master horse and competing at Advanced and FEI level dressage. I'd also like to be in a position where I can learn to train, as well as ride, young horses in dressage.
Why do you want to be part of the Barastoc Junior Squad? There are some really great riders on the Barastoc Junior Squad and I'd really like to be part of the team representing and I'd like to be.
How do you think being a member of the Barastoc Junior Squad will help your riding? I think being selected to be a member of the Barastoc Junior Squad would really boost my confidence in my riding and help me to take it to the next level. I also hope it would open up new opportunities to meet and learn from some of the great riders on the Barastoc team.
Which Barastoc Ambassador would you most like to meet? I'd like to meet Megan Jones. She seems to have a really interesting approach to training her horses, and she's done so much.
Have you fed Barastoc to your horses in the past? If so, what products did you use? We feed Barastoc Groom as part of his regular diet.
