How old are you? I am 18 years old.
How long have you been riding? I have been riding since the age of 5, but would have been riding much younger if I had the chance.
You have had some great success in a short amount of time, what is your secret? I have been fortunate enough to see success at a young age in my chosen sport and I believe it is because of the hard work that goes into preparing my own horses. I am involved in the process of training, from weaning/ foaling to breaking up to hitting the show ring. I have ridden in many different disciplines and am now riding track work too. I love riding different horses and take every opportunity I can get to get on new horses; as I believe each horse has their own lesson to give.
What do you love most about horses? I love the connection that is built between the horse and rider. It is said to be a language written in silence and built on trust.
What is your favourite thing to do when you are not riding? Outside of riding, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, playing netball (before I had a riding accident where I broke my clavicle) and studying more knowledge about horses and riding, in general. What is your favourite discipline? Much to my Aunty Helen’s (race horse trainer) disappointment, I enjoy showing, like my Aunty Maryjane.
Why did you enter the Barastoc Junior Squad Search? I was fortunate enough to win my place in the Barastoc Junior Squad, through the 2019-2020 Riding Pony Studbook , Junior Owner-Rider Highpoint. And I am honoured to be apart of such an amazing team.
What do you hope to do when you grow up? In the future I hope to be able to continue competing at a high level of competition, even if it means that I may have to give the sport up for a few years to pursue a tertiary education. I know I will always be able to return to the sport I have grown to love.
If you could meet one famous person in the world, who would it be? I honestly couldn’t tell you, as it would change each day. But some of the people I look up to in the equestrian community are: Judi Kaponica, Jess Stones, Michael Christie, Francesca Christie and Greg Mickan. Who is your biggest supporter? My biggest supporters would be my aunts Helen and Maryjane who have all of the horses on their property and take me to shows across the country. I am forever thankful for guidance, because I know without them I would not be able to compete at the level I am currently at.
